Ride Of The Week 12/28/2020: Steve Wilson's 1993 Ford F-150 Lightning

Updated: Aug 28, 2021

"Lightning in a Bottle Garage"

Steve Wilson caught lightning in a bottle. Well, really, it was an F-150 Lightning. And it was in a garage, stored for 26 years!

Part of the factory sport truck craze of the 1990s, the Ford F-150 Lightning, created by Ford’s Special Vehicle Team or SVT, joined the likes of the GMC Syclone, Dodge RAM SRT-10 and the Chevy 454 SS, to bring muscle car performance and style to pickup trucks. This example is from 1993, the second year of the first generation run, and features a 5.8-liter Windsor big-block V8 that made for 240 horses and 340 ft-lb torque.

It rides on the original tires, which held up great in storage, as did its original air filter and exhaust. Some parts didn’t fair as well during the quarter century hibernation and had to be replaced. These included radius arm bushings, front springs, and battery.

A pretty cool time capsule and Steve was very proud to show it off. Thanks, Steve!
