Ride Of The Week 08/24/2020: Mike and Sissy Trageser's 1981 Mercury Capri

Updated: Aug 28, 2021

“You’re A Mean Capri, Mr. Grinch!”

This week’s #carshowlife #rideoftheweek is courtesy of Sissy Trageser who writes,

“This is my husband Mike’s a 1981 Mercury Capri Fox body. This has been one of my husband's dream cars to restore. We found this car 6 hours from us and my husband did a 12 hour round trip to get the car and bring it home.

It initially sat in our driveway for 2 years while we tried to figure out what to do to make it the perfect car for him. He originally planned on using the car as a drag race car. But the more we thought about it, the car had more meaning to him than just a race car. So, he decided to restore it. It took us a long time to figure out what we wanted to do to this little brown coupe.

Then one day we were watching TV and my husband’s favorite, The Grinch That Stole Christmas came on. We no longer have any kids at home and he never was very fond of Christmas, so the movie was all about him. We decided to turn the car into a show car with a Grinch That Stole Christmas theme.

We tore it apart and painted it ourselves. We did everything top to bottom in our own garage except for the hood scoop. We knew this car would not win a lot of trophies at car shows, but we still take it and, to our surprise, we’ve have won a couple.

It brings a lot of joy to me and my husband to see the look on the kids’ faces when they see the car and even the grown adults that as it takes them back to their childhood.”

Thanks for sharing this with us Sissy! If you’d like your ride to be featured as a #carshowlife #rideoftheweek, send us your story and photos to info@carshowlife.net.
