Ride Of The Week 08/10/2020: Gary Krisch's 1948 Chevrolet Fleetline Aero Sedan

“That's NOT chopped!”

I attended my first car show since February and saw this really cool Chevy Fleetline. The roofline was so low and 'swoopy' that I started examining the pillars for "surgical scars" when the owner arrived to inform me, that's the way they came from the factory.

Turns out, I was looking at a 1948 Chevy Fleetline Aero Sedan. These two-door, fastback coupes were introduced in 1942 and after WWII were produced from '46-'52. According to the owner, who acquired it this past spring in Florida, the car was sold to its previous owner thru Gateway Classic Cars' Indianapolis showroom. The pinstriping was added after that sale as a Google search shows the car sans artwork. From the signature, that work was done by Hellcat pinstriping in St. Augustine, FL.

Gary and his wife drove this Chevy from their winter home in North Fort Myers to Williamsport, PA. It's a nice cruiser with a GM Goodwrench 350 crate engine backed by at TH350 3-spd auto and a Nova rear end. It has a Mustang II front end with power steering and breaks, Cragar S/S mags, a nicely appointed vinyl interior and a/c.
