Ride Of The Week 06/01/2020: Mike & Donna Mannion's 2015 Chevy SS Sedan

Updated: Aug 28, 2021

“Holden My SS”

I know Mike & Donna from the Northeastern Ohio Camaro Club, which is kind of ironic because they live in WV. Mike’s an over-the-road trucker and has family in Ohio, so he has connections across the country. In that context, it’s not a surprise that he’ll travel all over to enjoy cars.

In 2014 he and his wife, Donna, took a new 2015 SS Sedan for a test drive at their local Chevy dealer and were blown away by its “get up and go”. So, they bought it. After they arrived home with their new purchase, they did research. A little backwards, but just goes to show you how passionate they were about the car. They came to find that not only was it a sister car to the Pontiac G8, GTO and Chevy Camaro, but that it was built in Australia. In fact, the car had been manufactured there for years under GM’s Holden Brand as the Holden Commodore.

After watching YouTube videos of how other SS and G8 owners had rebadged their cars as Holden Commodores, the Mannion’s decided they too wanted to strip their SS of its Chevrolet branding and turn it into a left-hand drive Holden Commodore SSV. On top of the rebadging and appearance modifications like LED taillights, 15% window tint and a front splitter, they took the performance level up a notch thanks to a speed shop in Cincinnati, OH (I told you the guy gets around!).

A Stage 3 BTR cam was installed in the 6.2L V8 and it breathes in from a Rotofab CAI and out thru Stainless Works long-tube headers and a 3-inch exhaust with X-pipe and J-mufflers. The suspension was tweaked with Eibach lowering springs. In the gallery below you’ll see the before and after photos and that the car was one of the first Car Show Life show board subjects.
